Description of Volunteerism
    The volunteer management team seeks to create an atmosphere of dynamic volunteer ministry that nurtures qualified volunteers to meet the current and future needs of OSS. OSS depends on volunteers to help fulfill its mission in a number of ways.

    Supporting Daily Operations

    • Volunteers perform approximately 50% of daily operations.
    • Areas of volunteerism include academic, administrative, health and nutrition, community partnerships, one-time projects, and fund raising events.

    Establishing a Sense of Community

    • Volunteering helps current students learn how to embrace others within the community regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, social-economic standing, and geographical differences.
    • Volunteering helps the volunteer in the same ways while providing them an opportunity to participate in personal, organizational, and community development.

    Increasing the School’s Networking Capacity

    • Volunteers provide OSS with a vital communication link with the community.
    • Volunteers help OSS to increase its networking relationship within the community.

Volunteer Forms Spiritual Support
    Spiritual development is an ongoing process that requires the faithful prayer support of fellow believers. Please join us in praying for OSS in the following ways:

    • Pray for the salvation of the students and their families
    • Pray that God would meet the financial, emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual needs of the students and their families
    • Pray that God would break down the worldly mindsets and attitudes that prevent students from becoming all that God intended them to become
    • Pray that God would remove all barriers that prevent students from coming to school every day, on time, and prepared to learn
    • Pray that God would meet the financial, emotional, physical and spiritual needs of the staff and their families
    • Pray for a positive and productive classroom environment
    • Pray for meaningful community partnerships
    • Pray for quality volunteers
    • Pray for the financial needs of OSS
    • Pray for the leadership of OSS

      “I’m grateful for being at Omaha Street School because it is an awesome school! Before I learned about OSS I dropped out of school twice and was ready to give up. I should have graduated last year with my class, but hardships at home kept me from staying positive. A member from my church informed me about OSS and offered to pick me up and drop me off from school. We checked out the school and I liked what I saw. It’s a little school with teachers and other faculty you can get along with easily. Everyone is nice and accepting of all our differences. If it were not for this school I’d most likely be working at some low-paying job forty hours a week instead of finishing my education.”
