The Omaha Street School is moving into unchartered territory in 2011-12. A new area of effort is being put into offering students/young adults/clients preparation for taking the General Educational Development Tests – commonly known as the GED. Since 2001, 53 students have graduated from the Omaha Street School, and many more returned to public school and earned their diploma. However, nearly 500 students have attended OSS over the past 12 years and many were unable to complete a traditional education program.
After watching those numbers increase over time, the Street School has decided that it must branch out into other academic areas to meet the obvious need of so many students – turned young adults. So, beginning in October 2011, the doors of OSS will be open in the evenings to assist a new crop of students – likely young adults from age 18-25 – with help for taking the GED test. Our individualized program will continue, but this time with an emphasis on those young people who simply cannot be in school 7 hours a day as they approach their adult years.
